Caños de Meca

Los Lances

Tarifa’s main beach. Goes from the Seaport dock to the Arte y Vida Hotel. It is 10 kilometers long.

When to go:

Is the perfect beach for Poniente (western winds). There is no sense in going anywhere else when this wind is blowing.
Nevertheless, if the Poniente is at the same time a bit from north or from south there the exact part of the beach to go to will be slightly different.

Southern Poniente

wind blows almost equally on the whole beach..
In Autumm or Winter the conditions are tough. It is better to head for Punta Paloma, but it is only suitable for advanced riders.
Big and strong waves (specially in Autumn with stormy wheather)

The rest of the year this beach is suitable for all levels.

Northern Poniente
the best area to Kite then is in front of the Rio Jara Camp site. It is usually gusty and cold. The further away we go from Tarifa the more gusty and off-shore the wind will be.

The Northern Poniente tends to blow in Autumn, Winter or Spring but never during Summer.

When the sea is rough, if you are looking for strong and not so messy waves head to the area in front of the Camp site Rio Jara. Between October and March there is sometimes a flat water lagoon close to the camp site. This lagoon is perfect for freestylers, but is sometimes a little crowded.

Prohibited areas:
During the summer there are separate zones/areas for Kiting and Swimming. Respect these zones or you might find yourself having a chat with the local police!!

Parking facilities:
There is a Parking area that goes from a bit after the Camping Rio Jara up as far as Dos Mares Hotel. That is where everyone goes in summer as it is the main kiting zone during this season. However, the rest of the year most of the people leave their car and ride in front of the football field.

Try not to leave too much gear inside the car as small thefts are starting to be more frequent.
